A question about god

or at least the christian one. Why would he create the universe in all of its complexity, just to tell some cave people how to live? it doesnt make sense.

another one:

could god, being all powerful, create a stone so heavy he couldnt lift it?

why does an all good and all powerful god let people suffer?

post any other questions you have about god, or even try to answer one of these

  1. The very fact that we can see stars at night proves that the universe is billions of years older than the bible states it is.

  2. there's always the classic problem of evil. Most people believe god is all knowing, all powerful, and all good. Being all knowing, he knows all evils that can be committed. Being all powerful, he has the ability to stop them. Being benevolent, he wants only good to happen. How then does evil exist?

  8. These are all good philosophical questions about God that no one really has an answer to and just to question him. Not that I believe in him or anything, I support you actually.

  9. Questions like this ultimately is what led me to disbelieve in an all powerful god, and question the existencevery strongly. I think God is simply the desire for justice on ones name, considering the many gods that take many forms. Leaves questions no?

  12. I'll have a go at it.

"Why would he create the universe in all of its complexity, just to tell some cave people how to live? it doesnt make sense."

--> Probably because he was bored and wanted something to do. Also, I don't recall any cave people being told how to live in the Bible.

"could god, being all powerful, create a stone so heavy he couldnt lift it?"

--> Weight is mass multiplied by gravity. Creating an object that is inherently heavy doesn't make sense. Besides that, with enough force, one could lift any object.

"why does an all good and all powerful god let people suffer?"

--> Suffering is an inherent part of the human condition. Without suffering, joy would have no value to us. God is neither good nor bad, he does not play sides. A christian might tell you that all suffering is the direct result of the sins of Man.

God is seemingly extraordinarily sadistic at times in the Bible and is ashamed of Man as a whole. We're basically a disgrace to him.

  16. interesting questions, and not ones I claim to have any sort of answer to, but I really like Moltmann's "Crucified God" which discusses where God is in human suffering...definitely a hard subject to try to deal with

  17. I think of god as a big nerd running his physics simulator and watching what happens and shit...

  18. Waste of space, God doesn't exist!

  19. Simple answer: There is no God, therefore any questions involving his limitations and motives are invalid. Supporting ;)

  20. agnostic atheist here. I do not believe that a god exists, but I do not claim to have knowledge that one doesn't exist.

"could god, being all powerful, create a stone so heavy he couldnt lift it?"

-ALSO STOP USING THIS QUESTION. IT IS A LOADED QUESTION. IT IS NOT A REAL ARGUMENT. (again, this coming from an atheist)

  27. God can't be both all powerfull and all good at the same time...

If he was all powerfull he wouldn't allow evil to exist, unless he's not all good

  29. I think the easiest way to explain it is with an analogy. Think of everything as the beginning of a basketball game, the universe, planets, people, EVERYTHING. And when human life began, it was like the tip off, and God was the ref who threw the ball up and from there it was up to us to do as we wished. Everyone limits themselves to what their particular religion says they can do, but they forget that God has given them the power of free thought and action, if God didn't want us to do those things he would have not made us in an image that allowed us to do so.
